Sports Memorabilia Value

Many customers who are shopping for Sports Memorabilia don’t understand what it is worth or the cost.  If you are not going into a store or shopping with an online retailer, you are hunting for items in an auction.

Retail business determines the daily market value of a select piece of sports memorabilia.  You can’t go buy memorabilia from a vendor or wholesale company, as it doesn’t exist in this industry.  Many retailers and or companies pay $$$ for individuals to sign items for sale and they are not cheap.  Not only do they have to pay for the item being signed, they also pay a higher flat rate to have that individual do a signing session.  A session can run tens of thousands of dollars and an individual signature can cost anywhere from $40 – $500.

Example:

A custom jersey costs around $10, a signature runs around $40 and certification costs roughly $10.  That piece cost the retailer $60 to obtain.  If you want an authentic jersey used for signature and not a custom you price increases $140 on the low end, so now your cost is $200.

These example prices are an estimate and don’t include popular players/signatures, game worn jerseys and several other factors.  They are an example of base pricing for a standard jersey that a retailer is buying and then selling.

The biggest misconception by customers is when they see the price of a piece sold for in an auction. eBay is not a place to find comps. There are so many factors that go into play in an auction.  Could be running low because the person selling needs quick cash.  Maybe it is extremely overpriced, as the seller is trying to score a big pay day. Is it really certified and are you buying from a reputable seller?

At the end of the day anything’s value is determined by how much an individual is willing to pay for that item.  Just make sure you are educated before you think something is worth more or less than a normal retail price and understand why many sports memorabilia items cost what they do.

Sports Memorabilia Value is not determined by Auctions.

Sports Memorabilia is determined by retail cost through reputable companies.
